An XL dog house is sized for giant breeds, typically 36 inches or more of interior length, and the measurement that counts is the inside, so ignore the outer footprint and look for the internal spec. Your dog needs to stand without ducking, turn around, and lie flat with a couple of inches spare. Reinforced floors matter under a heavy dog, and a wide doorway that still keeps warmth in is the detail cheap models get wrong. Solid wood with a pitched roof handles weather best.
