A winter dog shelter has to block wind and damp before it tries to add heat. Seal and insulate the walls and roof, narrow the doorway and fit a flap or an offset entry wall, raise the floor off frozen ground, and set the shelter with its back to the prevailing wind. Cedar shavings or straw insulate and drain far better than fabric bedding, which freezes when wet. Keep a high vent open so moisture escapes, and check the bedding weekly. A low wattage heater panel helps in hard frost if the cable is routed out of reach. Our wooden shelters ship free with no minimum order.
