Tag Archives: outside dog houses for winter

An outside dog house gets through winter on preparation, not gadgets: seal and insulate the walls and roof, narrow the doorway and add a flap or offset entry, raise the floor on a pallet or slab, and site the house out of prevailing wind and away from the wettest ground. Cedar shavings or straw insulate and drain better than blankets, which freeze when damp. Leave a high vent open so moisture escapes, and check bedding weekly. If the dog spends long hours out in hard frost, a low wattage heater panel helps, with the cord routed out of reach. Our wooden houses ship free with no minimum order.
